Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba Goes Record Shopping at Rough Trade, Brooklyn

Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba recently took some time out of his busy schedule to do a little record hunting at Brooklyn's massive Rough Trade Records with ALT 92.3 Radio's Omar Torres. As the guys made their way through the store's aisles, Chris grabbed some records that he grew up listening to, some of his favorite new artists, and finally some that he's played on repeat ever since hearing them for the first time.

See what he picked out above!

From Chris' first choice, The Cure's epically downtempo and always sold out Disintegration, we knew we would be in for a great hunt. And since, again, it was indeed sold out Chris chose the seminal U.K. band's follow-up singles record Standing On The Beach as one of the first records he's ever purchased. Chris says it's one of his favorites because of just how many huge songs are featured, remembering "living with that record night and day, just savoring it and tearing it apart learning every note."

The next throwback record Chris chose from the bins was one that he says he played over and over again and still listens to on repeat to this day. Radiohead's The Bends, Chris says, is one of those albums that he can still listen to today and will "find something new over and over and over everytime I listen to it. This to me is the record that defines my relationship with Radiohead."

After being given a look into some of the albums that helped shaped Chris Carrabba's songwriting over the years, Chris gave us a taste of some of today's music that he's been listening to. "I've been listening to First Aid Kit like crazy," Chris admits, specifically the Swedish duo's 2018 album Ruins. Another pick, Chapel Hill, NC indie-punks Superchunk's latest release What A Time To Be Alive is, as Chris says, "tied for what is getting heavy rotation by me right now on my record player."

Amy Shark, Chris says, is the one artist that he's most excited to hear new music from. "I can't find her vinyl anywhere -- it's impossible! But man, is she insane. It's so good. I'm just totally enamored with her lyricism, her songwriting, and her performance. It's just next-level."

Chris Carrabba just released his seventh studio album as Dashboard Confessional, titled Crooked Shadows, in February of 2018 on Fueled By Ramen featuring the lead single "Heart Beat Here."

Rough Trade currently has four record shops located in the UK and one here in NYC located at 64 North 9th St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn featuring a huge vinyl selection, cafe, bookstore, and live music venue with bar and balcony seating. With Record Store Day 2018 coming up on April 21st, be sure to stop by if you're in the neighborhood, put down the smartphone, and get some fresh vinyl in your hands. Your ears will thank you for it later!
