Sunday mornings are often pretty slow in terms of news, especially on a Sunday Morning of a three day weekend. This morning however, the world, and Twitter, woke up to seeing ex "Cosby Show" actor Geoffrey Owens now working as a cashier at the Clifton NJ Trader Joe's.
Owens played Elvin Tibideaux, Sondra Huxtable's husband on the show from 1985 to 1992. He's had some other acting work since then, but the person who spotted and recognized him seemed to be very surprised to see him bagging groceries, and shared this with Fox News and the Daily Mail.
The guy is just trying to make some money, and it's pretty well known that Trader Joe's offers some great benefits. So with that being said... Twitter is outraged.
Trader Joe’s offers:
- Living wages with potential 7-10% raises annually
- Health, dental and vision coverage
- Paid time off
- Good corporate culture
- In-store discount

How dare you shame ANYONE for working & making a living, actor or no. https://t.co/8DA5nl7eNf

Maybe instead of shaming an actor who used to be on tv for having a 2nd job in a grocery store we should be talking about the poor wages most actors get paid. Senior actors getting less than an office junior is not uncommon. 2nd jobs are inevitable & actors have to be resourceful

I’ve worked as a cleaning person in a video store, washed dishes, bussed tables, worked in a law office, catered, waitered and more. Work is work, always be prepared to do it. Geoffrey Owens is a testimony to the dignity of work and to frame it as anything else is ignorant. https://t.co/IyL2i6OvwY

I am happy to see that there’s been bipartisan agreement that any attempts to shame or humiliate Geoffrey Owens are disgusting. https://t.co/jsGGbFlRml

Classism. A discriminatory attitude based on distinctions made between social or economic classes.https://t.co/brlpzRYrIx https://t.co/sK2arkTup6

Special shout out to Dictionary.com for always delivering the low key burns the world needs.
The world also needs more people like Geoffrey Owens with a hard working and not "I'm too good for this" entitled attitude (fellow Millenials and Gen Z-ers, I'm looking at you.)
The only person we should be shaming in 2018 from "The Cosby Show" is Bill Cosby.
