Thursday night (July 19th) Beck brought his 'Colors Tour' to The Garden. He hit the stage a little after 9pm, but before that the night actually started backstage with our lucky grand prize winners Chris and his brother, watching Beck and his band jam out / warm up in a fairly small locker room located somewhere on the 5th floor. (Side note: Did you know there’s A LOT more of The Garden than what we see when we go for events?)

The session was meant to be kept private and special so we kept our phones tucked away, but being able to be a fly on the wall and watch these very talented musicians casually do what they do best was one of the coolest experiences ever.

As for the show itself... wow! Lots of energy, lots of dancing, and lots of hits!

Throughout the 19 song set, Beck spoke about how much New York meant to him (it’s where his family started their American life after jumping off a ship near Jersey City, and where he himself started his career as a musician), and the meaning of playing Madison Square Garden (he played there once for the GRAMMYs telecast and randomly bumped into Bruce Springsteen in what he described as a "catacomb" which lead them to ask each other what they were each doing there).

@beck playing all his hits tonight at @thegarden!!!

The night ended perfectly with some more jamming that morphed into covers of their favorite songs, including “Once In A Lifetime” by the Talking Heads, plus a little Phil Collins, and Chic! And with that, the generations spanning crowd at Madison Square Garden saw why after 20+ years Beck is still going as strong as ever!
