Tis' the season for everything PUMPKIN.  Pumpkin flavored foods and drinks are everywhere you look right now, and it's easy to forget that pumpkin is actually a nutritious fruit.  Not to get all scientific but it is an excellent source if Vitamin A (which is important for eye health), Vitamin C (which helps strengthen the immune system), potassium, magnesium, and also contains carotenoids (which give the pumpkin its color and also act as antioxidants.) Also pumpkin is high in fiber and low in calories, so it's a healthy choice to fill up on if you're trying to lose weight.

So you should probably run to your local Starbucks, get a latte and start on your diet, right?  WRONG?!?!  Does a PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE even contain ANY pumpkin??

If you are one of those who has caved in to the Pumpkin Spice Latte madness, here's a history lesson.....Starbucks invented it back in 2003, and now it seems we literally cannot have FALL without it!! Flannel Shirts, boots, vests and yes, a pumpkin spice latte have become the "fall is here" starter kit!

But AGAIN, does it even contain PUMPKIN?!? The answer, sadly, is......KIND OF!!  It didn't contain any pumpkin until 2015, after people got in a huff about it.  And now it only contains a small amount of "pumpkin puree" which isn't even made of pumpkins-- it's mostly a combination of sweeter, hard-skinned winter squashes like butternuts and hubbards.  (GROSS!!!) Mostly your "P-S-L" just contains sugar.  See more of the GROSS ingredients HERE!! (if you couldn't tell, I am not a fan of lattes)

AS ALWAYS, though, there is a silver lining in everything!!  If you are like me, YOU CAN'T STAND pumpkin spice lattes, but that doesn't mean your DOG won't like it.

Yeah, I'm serious, PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES now exist for the dog!! It's called "PAWmpkin Spiced Latte"  and is available at 2 NEW YORK CITY LOCATIONS. (the Le Pain Quotidienbat 67th Street and Central Park West and Le Pain Quotidien at 74th Street and Fifth Avenue).  They probably taste better then 'OURS' because they actually contain real organic pumpkin!  Oh and they are free!!!
