The 1975's Matty Healy Knows One Way We Can Change the World

August 22, 2019

Last month, The 1975 released the first track from their forthcoming album, Notes on a Conditional Form. It's more of a call to action than a traditional song: Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg reads a powerful essay about the current "ecological crisis" over the band's music, calling for "civil disobedience" to affect powerful change.

When Matty Healy last visited ALT 92.3, it was clear he had larger issues on his mind then too. Our conversation quickly shifted from the band's most recent album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, to Brexit, the environment, and how often protest doesn't lead to actual change. That led to the question: what CAN we do, as individuals, to change the world around us? Matty had an immediate and simple answer: be nice. Watch the video above for more - just be warned, if you're at work, Matty drops a LOT of f-bombs.

So let's jump back to present day: we got a brand new song from The 1975 today! "People" just had its RADIO.COM World Premiere, so our chat makes for a fitting TBT. As the band continues to use their platform to inspire global action, today's as good a day as any to take Matty's advice and start with the world around us.
