The 1975’s latest album has finally arrived. A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships has been breathlessly written about by just about every music outlet in the world before we got our hands on it. It’s been called their best work yet. It’s been compared to Radiohead’s masterful OK Computer – more than once. And it’s been described as the perfect album for this moment.

So what does Matty Healy himself have to say about The 1975’s genre-defying third full-length album – and the importance of making albums themselves? Matty thinks it’s a myth that our so-called short attention span culture wants nothing but three-minute singles and sitcom-length shows: he shouts out Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. and HBO’s Game of Thrones as brilliant modern examples of longform entertainment.  The way we consume art in 2018 – and define beauty for ourselves – heavily impacted the making of A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.

It was a pleasure to talk to Matty when he was in New York a few weeks ago: he is a dizzyingly smart and thoughtful human being. We’ll have more to share from him soon – in the meantime, go experience the new album from The 1975 for yourself.
