Confession: I don't do scary movies. It all goes back to the time I accidentally saw a Nightmare on Elm Street movie at a sleepover when I was 6, resulting in a recurring Freddy Kreuger dream that haunted me well into my teens. I'm one of those people who reads the Wikipedia entries for popular horror movies so I can know what everyone else is talking about. It feels good to admit these things.

If you're in the same boat, but still want to get into the Halloween spirit: good news! There are plenty of movies that fit the bill without causing lasting emotional trauma. For example: Beetlejuice hilariously explores ghosts and the afterlife. Another Tim Burton movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, mashes up two beloved holidays with heartwarming results. Rocky Horror Picture Show is, frankly, one of the best cult classics of ALL TIME.

When I put out the call to ALT listeners for other harmless Halloween choices, Mike Catalano from Wayne came through: turns out he just wrote an article on this VERY TOPIC! His picks include: Fun Size, Monster House, ParaNorman, Once Bitten, and Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the WereRabbit. And here's a list with even MORE options for your viewing pleasure!
