Total accident that I'm doing an MTV-related post two days in a row.  Sorry.  But I saw this and read it and knew I had to share.

MTV Unplugged is possibly the best thing the network ever did, and Nirvana's appearance on the show was definitely the best episode...with apologies to Alice In Chains.

This oral history looks back on how it all came to be.  From the band's initial misgivings...drummer Dave Grohl: "We’d seen the other Unpluggeds and didn’t like many of them, because most bands would treat them like rock shows—play their hits like it was Madison Square Garden, except with acoustic guitars," to the days rehearsing in Weehawken, to Kurt's subtle  “this is from our first record. Most people don’t own it," dig at the fans.

Everyone involved is here

It may be what you would call a "lengthy read," but trust me, it's worth it.
