RIP David Berman of Silver Jews / Purple Mountains

A great loss for the indie rock community

August 8, 2019

The greater indie rock, poetry, and world community lost a good one today, with an incredibly unique and powerful voice.  David Berman of SIlver Jews / Purple Mountains fame was confirmed dead today by his label, Drag City, much to the shock of everyone everywhere.  Berman was fresh off the release of his debut LP under the new Purple Mountains moniker, which found universal acclaim ahead of what was supposed to be his first tour in over a decade.  It will now serve as his swan song, with many of the record's darker themes seeming unfortuantely forecasting of todays news.  Many peers and collaborators have already took to twitter to express their sadness and pay tribute including members of Pavement, The Avalanches, Deerhunter, Kurt Vile, Cat Power, El-P, The National, Oneohtrix Point Never, Broken Social Scene, Japanese Breakfast, Marc Maron, and more.

If you're unfamiliar with his work these recent tracks are a great place to start.  There's a lot more where that came from.
