When in Las Vegas…

The Black Keys are revving up the engine on their first tour in four years, and they’re already having fun. The duo from Ohio invited Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton, to join them on-stage at Life is Beautiful over the weekend.

Newton joined Dan Auerbach, Patrick Carney and the band for show-closer “Lonely Boy,” and it wasn’t just by chance, as Carney told KROQ’s Stryker a few days before the show.

Lil’ Wayne is going on before us so we needed to get big Wayne, so we actually, literally for real booked Wayne Newton to come out and sing ‘Lonely Boy’ with us,” Carney said.

Lil’ Wayne actually never made it on-stage for his slot. The rapper cancelled at the last minute.

The Black Keys kicked off their tour with an intimate gig in Los Angeles last Thursday. The band is promoting their new album Let’s Rock, and they told Stryker they were looking forward to performing the new songs, as well as fan favorites for the first time in a while.

“I think once we get in front of a crowd and see people enjoying it, it’s going to be amazing,” Carney said. “It’s easy to forget what the feels like and it’s the most incredible feeling; it’s the best part of playing live.”

The tour continues tonight in Denver and stretches until November 24 in Vancouver.
